Goldfinch Blankets

In 2013, with a love of textiles and a background in fashion and interior design, we began a creative adventure into a world of natural fibers, slow production and exotic locales. We travelled to find sources in Nepal and Mexico--places where making things by hand is still a way of life--and found artisans dedicated to the old, time-consuming processes of dyeing, weaving and hand-finishing. We're continually blown away to find that this wealth of skill, knowledge and patience is alive, well and practiced daily. We design our collection to incorporate these fine skills and are inspired knowing that there's so much more to discover!

Our Goldfinch studio is in the heart of Minneapolis, where we work and correspond daily with our production partners in Nepal and Mexico. Designing and producing our collection is, at once, inspiring, thrilling, satisfying and often impractical. We love it all!

Debra Herdman, designer/owner I'm also an interior designer,  www.debraherdmandesign.com  and using wonderful textiles in my interior projects has always been one of my strong suits. My career has spanned interior design, fashion design, art direction and product design. I've always made things by hand and at age 11 started sewing clothes for myself, my mom, rock bands and friends. From there I experimented with many crafts--knitting, macrame, tie-dye, block printing, embroidery and painting on fabric. I utilize much of this background now and in 1993 when I founded my first textile company, modern linen industrie--a collection of home products hand-made in Minneapolis.   Planning and working in gardens is my favorite pastime. I love to watch things grow and develop, which must be why I have an entrepreneurial spirit! I'm inspired by other cultures, travel as much as I can to learn about the world and I'm currently learning to speak Spanish.
